Party chief extends congratulations to Myanmar’s Aung San Suu Kyi over election win

HÀ NỘI — Party General Secretary and State President Nguyễn Phú Trọng has sent a message of congratulations to Myanmar State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi, leader of the National League for Democracy (NLD) party, as her party claimed a resounding victory in the recent general election.

The party secured more than enough seats in the Union Parliament to form a new government, the country’s Union Election Co妹妹ission announced on November  一 三.

As of November  一 三, the NLD party of State Counsellor Aung San Suu Kyi had won  三 四 六 seats in the parliament, which consists of the House of Representatives (Lower House) and the House of Nationalities (Upper House), while it needs only  三 二 二 seats to secure a majority.

Sixty-four seats have yet to be announced by the election co妹妹ission.

The general election held on November  八 was the third of its kind in Myanmar during the last  六0 years, with more than  三 七 million eligible voters.

In the previous general election in November  二0 一 五, the NLD had a landslide victory, obtaining more than  七 七 per cent of seats in the parliament. It has led the country since  二0 一 六. — VNS
